Organization Background:
Floretta P. Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy (FPCVPAA), a public charter school located in the heart of Mobile, AL provides a seven- year comprehensive academic and conservatory arts program to students in grades 6-12. Established in 2023, FPC VPAA is one of the premier arts schools in Alabama, where aspiring young artists have the opportunity to refine their skills and flourish in one of 16 pre-professional arts conservatories. FPC VPAA serves a culturally diverse student body across Mobile and surrounding areas. Based on the belief that creative artistry is fueled by intellectual insight, FPC VPAA provides a rigorous college-preparatory academic program that produces high-achieving, motivated scholars.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Supervises employees as designated by the Senior Director of Special Education and Student Services.
• Serve as the school Building Test Coordinator (BTC).
• Understands PowerSchool and Student Scheduling.
• Provides ACT prep training.
• Understands ACCESS and proper transcript auditing techniques.
• Provides structured prevention, intervention and responsive services to meet the needs of individuals or groups of students regarding academic, career and personal/social issues.
• Provides individual or group counseling to address behaviors and psychosocial stressors that interfere with educational performance.
• Counsels individual students to facilitate transitions from home to school and to build positive attitudes, self-understanding, self-direction and responsibility.
• Counsels groups of students to promote confidence and effective interaction an to solve problems and make effective decision.
• Develops and/or presents age-appropriate classroom and small group activities to enhance personal/social skills and to facilitate educational and career planning.
• Consults and collaborates with teachers, parents, and staff to increase student achievement, positive
  behavior, motivation and academic learning.
• Consults with teachers to coordinate effective intervention plans to meet students' needs and to serve as a referral agent when needed.
• Assesses home, school, personal and community factors that may affect a students' learning in order to develop counseling and guidance plans.
• Participates n Student Study Team Meetings, Individualized Education Program Meetings, Section 504 Meetings, and School Attendance Review Board Meetings, as appropriate; facilitate teams as necessary to accomplish proper results.
• Participates as a member of the site and district Crisis Team.
• Works with staff to develop a positive school climate program to include student recognition, positive behaviors and pro-social interaction.
• Monitors the academic progress of students and assists in the development of appropriate interventions to improve student achievement and attendance.
• Interprets appropriate assessment data. Evaluates counseling program effectiveness to provide data for improving services.
• Communicates with parents to maximize student's social and academic adjustment, explaining policies, and assisting in parental understanding of child development.
• Maintains a network of community resources and contacts and makes them available to parents as needed.
• Consults with school and community professionals to coordinate counseling services and make appropriate referrals.
• Consults with representatives of public and private agencies in providing information regarding students for possible referrals to other supportive services or agencies within the community.
• Provides parent trainings on various topics.
• Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's or Doctorate Degree
• Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the secondary level.
• Significant experience with daily lesson planning.
• Strong record of helping students achieve academic success.
• Experience in analyzing data and using results to modify curricula to meet the needs of students.

Required Qualifications:
• Valid AL Teacher Certificate (within area of expertise)
• Bachelor's Degree Required
• A deep understanding of content specific and general pedagogy, AP curriculum, Alabama Advanced Standards within area of expertise, and current trends and best practices in instruction.
