Role Description: Estimator

Location: Based out of Mobile, Baldwin, or Washington County, AL

Travel: Some travel to project sites, vendor locations, and client meetings required

Overview

We're seeking an experienced Estimator to join a General Contractor specializing in industrial fabrication and repair projects within the steel mill and oil & gas sectors.

This role is ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge of fabrication, welding, and field construction, who enjoys analyzing drawings, building relationships, and helping secure profitable projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and project bids for industrial fabrication and repair work in the steel mill and oil & gas industries.
• Analyze drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and addenda for accurate quantity takeoffs and scope clarification.
• Compile, organize, and submit complete bid packages promptly and accurately.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify scope and pricing.
• Review and assess subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness.
• Track bid outcomes, maintain and update estimating logs and historical cost databases.
• Support bid reviews, proposal presentations, and project handoff meetings.
• Maintain organized digital records of historical estimates and vendor pricing.
• Provide value-engineering options and cost-saving alternatives.
• Assist in client communications and negotiations to help close awarded projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
• Minimum 4 years of estimating experience within industrial construction, fabrication, or mechanical/piping sectors.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook; experience with Bluebeam, Planswift, Tekla, or similar takeoff software is a plus.
• Proven track record preparing and winning competitive, profitable bids across multiple trades.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both internal and client-facing interactions.
• Ability to travel periodically to project sites, client meetings, and vendor locations.
• Experience conducting client presentations and bid negotiations preferred.

Compensation

Salary discussions are ongoing and will be based on experience and qualifications.
