Overview

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Laboratory Medicine, is seeking a skilled Researcher Senior Lead to join their team. The Dutt Lab is located in a newly renovated, dedicated 800 sq. ft. research space within the Shelby Biomedical Research Building. The lab is equipped for immunological, molecular, and translational research with access to institutional resources including BSL-2 and SEBLAB facilities; BSL-3 laboratories, ABSL-3 animal facility, high-parameter flow cytometry and cell sorting cores, and UABs spatial omics and proteomics core facilities. The lab emphasizes intellectual curiosity, collaborative problem-solving, scientific rigor, inclusivity, and mentorship, with a focus on translational impact.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to immunological research in tuberculosis (TB) with emphasis on tissue-resident B cells and ectopic germinal centers (eGCs). The successful candidate will join a newly established lab with substantial support, where innovation and collaboration are valued. Responsibilities

  • Generation of Experimental Research Data using Mouse Model and Human Samples.
  • Analysis of High-Dimensional Computational Data.
  • Manuscript and Grant Writing.
  • Collaboration, Team Integration, and Student Mentoring.
  • Lead the overall research strategy and oversee multiple high-impact projects; drive innovation and, depending on the focus, may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or handling specimens.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in a related field and one (1) year of related experience OR Masters degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience OR Bachelors degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, Infectious diseases, Biomedical Sciences, or related field.
  • Strong foundation in immunology and infectious disease biology; interest in host-pathogen interactions at molecular and cellular levels.
  • Prior experience in B cell biology, tuberculosis or other intracellular pathogens, and mucosal immunology is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in core immunological techniques (multicolor flow cytometry, ELISA, tissue sectioning and imaging, in vivo mouse models) preferred.
  • Experience with high-throughput data analysis (single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, or computational immunology using R or Python) is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to drive projects toward high-quality publications and translational applications.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $63,875 - $103,800
