School Kitchen Cook

Covenant Academy of Mobile is seeking a reliable and motivated School Kitchen Cook to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to students and staff while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment.

Work Schedule & Attendance

  • Work Status: Full-Time (M-Fri)
  • Standard Start Time: 6:00 AM
  • End Time: 1:30

Essential Duties

  • Prepares cooks, and serves food in accordance with accepted institutional and HACCP procedures
  • Serve Meals:
    • Take pride in serving food to students and staff during mealtimes.
    • Ensure proper portion control and presentation according to cafeteria guidelines.
  • Follows daily production schedules, including preparing recipes as written
  • Maintain Cleanliness:
    • Clean kitchen and serving areas, including wiping down counters, sweeping, and mopping floors.
    • Wash dishes, utensils, and food preparation equipment.
    • Maintain cleanliness in food storage and preparation areas to comply with health regulations.
  • Stocking Supplies:
    • Ensure food items, condiments, and utensils are restocked in preparation and serving areas.
    • Report inventory shortages to supervisors.
  • Follow Safety and Sanitation Procedures:
    • Adhere to food safety guidelines, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of food.
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for food service.
  • Customer Service:
    • Address any questions or concerns regarding food options or dietary needs.
  • Professional Appearance:
    • Maintain a clean and presentable appearance while on duty to ensure a positive and professional image.
  • Be punctual and reliable, ensuring timely arrival for shifts and food delivery schedules.
  • Adheres to Federal, State, and Local policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Adheres to Employees Work Rules and School Nutrition Personnel and Uniform Standards
  • Completes 6 hours of in-service training yearly and attends all training as scheduled by the CNP Director.
  • Communicates effectively and promotes good public relations with students, teachers, and administrators.
  • Works with peers/supervisors in tactful, considerate, and cooperative manner and assists others when needed.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Experience Qualifications

Associate degree preferred; relevant experience will also be considered.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to read and follow recipes
  • Manual dexterity necessary to operate food preparation equipment and perform necessary cleaning
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

Working Conditions

  • Works in kitchen environment
  • Works with hands in hot water and chemicals approved for use in the School Nutrition Program
  • May involve exposure to extreme heat and/or cold
  • Adheres to Covenant Academy of Mobile Nutrition Personnel & Dress Standards
  • Adheres to additional guidelines outlined in the employee handbook

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must be able to properly lift heavy items from a stooping position
  • Must be able to stand and/or move about kitchen for entire shift
